Monday, May 25
- Lecture- Read 15 minutes and sign the Reading Log
- Comptine- le son "y=ii"
- Maths- Doubles/Halves/Multiply by 2/4/8. The students have been taught strategies to use for these operations. It is extremely important that the students are able to use these strategies even if they "know" the answer. We encourage them to write the answer first if they know it and then prove their answer using the strategies taught. These strategies are the foundation that is used to build later skills and it's important that the students know how to use them even with "easy" numbers. Understanding the logic in math rather than memorization is the key and will help them to transfer this knowledge later. Ask your child about the difference between understanding a multiplication fact rather than memorizing a multiplication fact using a grade one class as an example! :) An example of this, would be using the strategy Double the Double for 4 and Double the Double of the Double for 8.
- Maths- continue to encourage your child to master the strategies of addition and subtraction based on their latest formative test. Please sign and return the test for tomorrow.
- CDT newsletter

- Lecture: Read 15 minutes nightly and sign the reading log
- Comptine- Read the comptine "ail". There are 2 sides so you can alternate nights.
- Math- They have 3 numeration outcomes that we are working on:
- We continue to work on "Ce qui fait..."
- Patterns:see other worksheet in their agenda
- Addition: Please choose one to work on nightly and alternate nightly. Addition is done by adding the tens first and then the ones... using these terms please (7 tens + 8 tens = 15 tens therefore 70 + 80 = 150). They can use the numbers correctly but should say 7 tens instead of 70. If they are doing 2 digit mental math, they would add the ones first and then the tens, adding the addition ten to the other tens. If they are adding three digit numbers, they add the hundreds first (show their work) and then add the remaining 2 digit numbers together mentally. ( 347 +748 = 300 + 700= 1000 and then 47 + 48= 95. Last they add 1000 + 95 = 1095). If they are adding 4 digit numbers, they add the hundreds of each number first and the last two digits mentally. (4 357 + 2 864 = 4300 + 2800 (43 hundred + 28 hundred) = 7100 (71 hundred) and then 57 + 64 = 121. Last they add 71 hundred + 1 hundred=72 hundred (7200) and then add 21 = 7 221.

- Please note a change in Math... the students began working what makes 100 today. They brought home 2 dice in order to work this concept and a sheet in a plastic sleeve. They will roll the dice and write that number on the line. They then use another sheet of paper to work out the problem on a number sheet. Check it out!
- ____ + _____ = 100 the number rolled goes on the left hand side of the number line and 100 at the right hand side of the line. the number rolled (ex:47) is where we start, Riverview. We jump into the car but oh no! We ran out of gas in Memramcook! This is the next tens (ex:50). Add 3. Once filled up, we continue on to our destination... Sackville. How many tens do we need to get from 5 tens (Memramcook) to 10 tens (Sackville)? 5 tens. Now add together.... 57.
